The suspected robbers invaded Icefish Market along Uratta by Erekwerenwa Street, where they raided one of the coldrooms belonging to one Madam White in order to rob fish dealers of their money.
According to eye witnesses, when the robbers came, they did not know of the presence of some armed policemen in the market who promptly challenged the invaders.
The intervention of the policemen, eye witnesses said, led to a shoot out between the police and the suspects, a situation that caused the buyers and sellers scampering for safety.
Following the shootout, an unidentified policeman was shot to smitherens.
The body of the police officer, it was gathered, has since been removed by the police authorities
