Lagos sacks principal, VP, others For Aiding In WAEC Exam malpractices

A school principal and his deputy and seven other senior teachers in the Lagos State Ministry of Education have been sacked by the state government for their involvement in examination malpractice during the last May/June West African School Certificate Examination, WASCE.

They are; Mr. S. O. Amure, School Principal on Grade Level 17; Mr. V. A. Joseph, the Vice-Principal on Grade Level 16; Mr. K. E. Ogunleye, a Mathematics teacher on Grade Level 15; Mr. A. I. Banjoko, Examination Supervisor on Grade Level 12. Also sacked are; Mrs. L. D. Akinterinwa on Grade Level 15; Mr. A. O. Araba on Grade Level 15; Mr. V. O. Towoshe on Grade Level 14 and Mr. S. I. Oladipupo, an Assistant Examination Supervisor on Grade Level 08.

The officers, who are members of staff of the state’s Senior Model College, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, where found guilty of aiding and abetting the students to cheat during their last Mathematics examination.

All the officers were equally found culpable of offences ranging from dereliction of duty, failure to monitor the examination, directly assisting in solving questions, abandoning the hall and classrooms, where they were supposed to invigilate, thereby condoning examination malpractices and failure to carryout thorough supervision of the examination.

Investigation carried out by West African Examination Council, WAEC, officials showed that the officers deliberately abandoned the examination hall during the examination in an attempt to give the students they were supposed to invigilate an opportunity to cheat.

WAEC officials, who found on the students several incriminating evidences, also presented recorded tape that confirmed the culpability of the officers. Commenting on the issue, the

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Aderemi Ibirogba, noted that such decision would serve as a deterrent to other officers in the state civil service, saying the government would not condone any act of fraud in the system. He advised the officers to continue to live above board to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government and the people of the state.
