Ecobank sacks 147, Diamond bank throws out 2000 workers

Ecobank has sacked 147 of it’s personnel early this month, those fired were tagged as non-perfoming workers.The sacked workers who were not finding it funny at all protested their disengagement from the bank and threatened to drag the bank to court.
According to Ecobank’s corporate affairs manager, Mr Austin Isokpo, the ‘rationalization’ exercise was based on performance,those who were not performing well were shown the door. he said the bank promoted those who were performing recently and could not keep those who were not performing.
The association of bank workers and the labour Union are in support of Ecobank’s actions.
Diamond bank on the other hand, sacked 2000 staffers because they recorded low patronage in recent times which caused non -payment of workers salaries hence the need to rationalize. On may 15th, workers from the bank stormed their Abuja headquarters,disrupting activities there. they protested their termination of service by the bank led by Dr. Alex Otti. Those sacked were not given prior notice, they resumed at their place of work only to be told that their services were no longer needed.
